Costa Rica, the land of Pura Vida!
(Click to jump directly to the blog posts here!)
Sandwiched between Nicaragua and Panama, Costa Rica may be small, but it offers almost endless sights to see and things to do!
With just over 5 million people and a landmass similar to Slovakia, this tropical paradise is bursting with adventure, culture, and jaw-dropping natural beauty.
While Costa Rica is a haven for adrenaline-pumping adventures – think ziplining, surfing, and volcano hikes – the heart of its culture lies in two simple words: “pura vida.”
This phrase, meaning “pure life,” is more than just a greeting; it’s a way of life. Locals embrace a laid-back mindset and an incredibly open and friendly way of living.
One of the many things Costa Rica is famous for are its many stunning volcanoes, both active and dormant. And with two coastlines – the Pacific and the Caribbean – there’s always a beach to explore as well!
The official currency is the Costa Rican Colón (CRC). Most businesses accept major credit cards, but some spots (especially local markets and small eateries) are cash-only. Tipping isn’t required, but rounding up your bill or leaving a small amount is always appreciated.
Wondering about drinking water? While tap water is generally safe in many areas, bottled water is your best bet to be safe.
Temperatures stay warm year-round, with highs averaging 83°F (28°C) and lows around 66°F (19°C). If you’re looking to avoid crowds, low season runs from May to mid-December, while high season (mid-December to April) is generally a bit dried and brings more tourists.
No matter when you visit, though, Costa Rica offers a world of adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable experiences!
Did you know…?
